Epic Care Delivers Leading-Edge Radiation Treatments
Managing pain and other symptoms caused by chronic musculoskeletal conditions can be challenging. At Epic Care, we’re proud to offer low-dose radiation therapy (LD-RT) as an alternative treatment when other pain management options have not been effective—all conveniently close to home.
At lower-dose rates, radiation therapy has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Best of all, this painless treatment has minimal side effects.
Benefits of Low-Dose Radiation
- Non-Invasive: Treatment is personalized to every patient and delivered externally via our patient-friendly radiation machine to the affected area. It is even suitable for patients who have previously undergone radiation for other conditions. Please note that these treatments may not eliminate the need for joint surgery, injections, or physical therapy for some conditions.
- Painless, with Little to No Side Effects: Studies indicate that LD-RT has little to no acute side effects, making it a safe option for many patients.
- Effective: Research shows the effectiveness of radiation therapy in managing symptoms and preserving quality of life.
- Quick & Simple: Each treatment session typically lasts 10 minutes or less, with six to eight sessions scheduled over two to three weeks.
Conditions We Treat
- Osteoarthritis: Low-dose radiation therapy is a recommended alternative treatment for older patients who have not experienced effective pain relief with other treatments. This treatment can be used to manage pain in the hands, fingers, knees, hips, ankles, shoulders, and spine.
- Dupuytren’s Contracture & Ledderhose Disease: Both of these conditions produce a thickening of the connective tissue in the hands and feet, which can be debilitating. Radiation therapy in early stages may slow progression and delay more invasive procedures.
- Plantar Fasciitis: LD-RT has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving mobility.
LD-RT is not currently offered for joints affected by rheumatoid arthritis, lupus arthritis, active joint infections, or fractures.
At Epic Care, we are committed to delivering leading-edge treatments to help our patients manage pain and improve their quality of life. If you are struggling with osteoarthritis and conventional pain management methods have not worked, Low-Dose Radiation Therapy (LD-RT) may be an effective alternative.
Low-Dose Radiation FAQs
Low-Dose Radiation Therapy (LD-RT) is a proven, effective treatment used to manage pain associated with osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. Originally introduced shortly after X-rays were discovered, LD-RT has evolved with advancements in radiation techniques to provide safe, targeted pain relief.
At lower dose rates, radiation therapy exhibits powerful anti-inflammatory properties. This painless, non-invasive treatment has minimal side effects. LD-RT is particularly well-suited for older patients with refractory osteoarthritis and can be used to manage pain in the hands, fingers, knees, hips, ankles, shoulders, and spine.
Our radiation therapy experts at Epic Care are dedicated to providing compassionate, world-class care close to where you live and work. LD-RT offers a valuable treatment option before considering injections, surgery, or medications that may have unwanted side effects.
Treatments are delivered using state-of-the-art, patient-friendly radiation machines in a safe and comfortable environment.
Patients typically receive six to eight treatments over the course of two to three weeks, scheduled either every other day or twice a week.
Each session lasts less than 10 minutes, and multiple joints can be treated during the same visit.
Clinical studies show that over 70% of patients experience significant pain relief after completing their initial round of LD-RT treatments. Many patients report continued pain relief lasting up to two years post-treatment.
LD-RT is a painless treatment with no reported acute or long-term side effects, making it a safe and effective option for osteoarthritis patients seeking alternative pain management solutions.
LD-RT is covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare. For those whose insurance does not cover the treatment, Epic Care can quote a private pay option.
